This is a highly technical aviation position and is under the general direction and supervision of the Air Support Unit (ASU) Supervisor and/or the ASU Maintenance Officer and requires an Airframe and Powerplant Mechanic's Certificate. Mechanic will be responsible for following all regulations as required by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Interagency Committee for Aviation Policy (ICAP).
- This is an extra help position, working on an as needed basis, without a specific number of guaranteed hours per week.

Sealed official transcripts from your highest level of education. Transcripts cannot be uploaded to your online application. Transcripts must be ordered by the closing date and be received no later than the oral board interviews.

Examples of Duties
(Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:)
Maintain OH-58A and UH-1H helicopters.
Perform skilled maintenance and repair work on various sections of helicopters including airframes, engines and electronic components.
Perform preventive maintenance inspections in accordance with ICAP Regulations, or required by the FAA or manufacturer to ensure safe operating condition of helicopters.
Disassemble and examine parts and components using precision and diagnostic instruments to measure parts for wear and defects.
Diagnose mechanical problems observed during inspection and those reported by pilots and flight officers to determine needed repairs.
Refer to blueprints, diagrams and repair manuals in order to determine how to make repairs and replace worn or defective parts.
Reassemble and test parts and equipment for proper operation.
Diagnose electrical malfunctions and perform routine repairs and maintenance or remove electrical components and specialized equipment for repair by vendors.
Fabricate parts including work aids such as braces or supports to hold aircraft components in place during maintenance and repair.
Maintain accurate records of scheduled inspections, maintenance, repairs and replacement of aircraft components as required by manufacturer's specifications and department protocols.
Prepare and sign off on inspection reports providing inspectors authorization upon completion of repairs and inspections.
Perform related duties safely, effectively, and efficiently in a variety of conditions and environments as required.
Perform all duties with minimal supervision.
Performs other duties as required.
WORKING CONDITIONS: (Conditions may include, but are not limited to the following)
Varied shifts (days, nights, weekends, holidays, etc.). This may include callouts for unexpected and emergency maintenance issues; variety of weather conditions; ability to wear a variety of protective garments or apparatuses when appropriate; work in situations/environments where potentially hazardous materials are present.
Must be a United States citizen or lawful permanent resident, who can read and write the English language with no adult felony convictions; high school graduate or equivalent; must possess and maintain a current airframe and power plant mechanics (A&P) certificate from the FAA and have a minimum of three years of full time professional experience as an FAA Certified Airframe and Power Plant Mechanic engaged in performing maintenance and alterations, with experience working on one or more of the following turbine powered helicopters: Bell 206 series , OH-58A/C , or UH-1H series. Must be able to see, hear, feel, smell, touch, speak and move about (with or without corrective devices) to perform the duties, responsibilities, tasks and essential functions required or assigned to this position. Must hold and maintain a valid driver's license at time of appointment and during employment.
Prefer FAA Inspection Authorization certificate
OH-58A, Bell 206 Series, or UH-1H Helicopter maintenance and repair
Preventive maintenance inspections in accordance with manufacturer, ICAP Regulation, and FAA regulations
Aircraft records and logs as required by all regulatory agencies
Repair and maintenance work of OH-58A, Bell 206 Series, and UH-1H helicopter
Recognizing potential areas of mechanical failure using precision and diagnostic instruments
Reading blueprints, diagrams, and repair manuals
Diagnose and repair various kinds of malfunctions or return to vendor for specialized repairs
Perform repair work in a safe and timely manner
Work on sections of helicopter including airframe, engine and electrical components
Fabricate necessary parts to facilitate repairs
Maintain all required repair and maintenance records and logs
Work a varied schedule as required
Work in all types of weather conditions
Performs all required duties with minimum supervision and meet deadlines
